The Digital Certificate is an electronic document that enables identity to be verified for a
person, a company or a site, so that on-line transactions and the electronic exchange of
legal validity as if it were signed personally on paper.
This technology allows any type of document to be signed digitally, thus granting it the same
legal validity as if it were signed personally on paper.
In this manner it functions as an electronic ID card, allowing that a transaction conducted over
the Internet be perfectly safe considering that the parties involved must mutually present their
credentials and prove their identity.
Technically it’s an electronic document which, by means of logical and mathematical procedures
assures the integrity of information and of transactions conducted. This electronic document is
generated and signed by a thrustworthy third party, that is, a Certifying Authority which, under
rules that may be audited, associates an entity (person, process, server) to a pair of
cryptographic keys.
The certificates contain the holder’s data, such as: name, number in the Individual Tax Payer
Register (CPF)/ passport number, e-mail, signature of the issuing Certifying Authority among
others, as detailed in the Security Policy for each Certifying Authority.
